Dance Machine – McCabe’s

With my bestie and bar hopper nearly hitched I’ve had trouble finding trouble.

So after running into a high school acquaintance, who invited me to McCabes, I quickly obliged. My first experience with this Honky Tonk was that of disbelief. What is this dance floor and what are they doing? After watching from the sidelines for a while it started to look like some fun. I’ve always applied the “fake it, till you make it” rule to most things in life but this was structured dancing; and I would only come away with bruised toes. Alas, I finally came to the Tuesday’s 2-step lesson.

My first few dance lessons were worse than pulling teeth. I know that guys are supposed to lead when dancing but this control freak couldn’t help it…Until I was partnered with, who I now call, Peter Pan. Peter Pan (the boy who wouldn’t grow up) was not intimidated by me (not the slightest bit) and completely took control of this control freak. I had no choice and it was just what I needed. From Peter Pan, I graduated to dance instructor assistant. Today, this control freak enjoys being lead around the dance floor (side note to guys: please have some follow through when leading a lady; if you hesitate, we hesitate).

Now it’s been two years and I’m still frequenting this place. During the transition of becoming a dance machine, I’ve also met some great friends and enjoyed some new experiences. If you ever have a chance to learn a dance….DANCE!
